Turnip

A great summer crop, increasing winter cropping provides high ME feeds for freshly calved spring cows. When grazing over a long period 2 varieties are recommended the different maturity lengths maintain feed quality. Winter varieties generally have better frost tolerance. Yields range from 8 – 12 DM/Ha with a typical ME of 12 +. For milking cows no more than a third of their diet is advised. Turnips and rape work well as a combination in a blend.
