Sheep’s Burnet is a deep-rooted perennial herb it has small reddish-purple flowers. It is a hardy plant that can tolerate dry conditions and is resistant to pests and diseases. Sheep’s Burnet deep tap root allows it to draw up trace elements from deeper in the soil profile providing a high-quality palatable feed, it is known to contain high levels of protein and Vitamin A. The deeper root structure means that it will grow well on thin, dry hill country soils. The nature of its deep tap root improves soil condition, and provides additional elements for animal health and other pasture species. It has early spring growth maintaining quality and a long season.

Sheep’s Burnet is palatable and great for animal health it can be grazed once it reaches a height of about 10 cm. To promote long-term persistence, we recommend avoiding overgrazing and allowing the plant to recover between grazings.

Sowing rates

A general guideline for the sowing rate is about 1 to 2 kilograms of pure live seed (PLS) per hectare (ha) for broadcast sowing or 0.5 to 1 kilogram PLS per ha for drilling.
