Description
“In 86 days, grew 13 tonne dry matter per hectare of peas & oats.”
Forage Peas & Oats Mix is an excellent bulk feed for grazing stock and also provides a high quality silage in 86-90 days with remarkable bulk. It is high in protein and can provide a valuable source energy, fibre and feed for grazing livestock, particularly during the winter and early spring when other forage options may be limited.
Forage Peas & Oats Mix has a high leaf-to-stem ratio, making them more palatable to livestock and easier to digest. This also means that animals are more likely to consume the entire plant.
They have good regrowth potential and can tolerate grazing, so they can continue to produce forage throughout the grazing season. This makes it a sustainable and cost-effective option for farmers who are looking to provide their animals with high-quality feed throughout the grazing season.
They can grow up to 1.5 m high. Sow the Forage Peas & Oats Mix at a recommended rate of 200 kg per hectare in either early autumn or early spring when soil temperatures are 10-12°C. The optimal pH range for sowing is 6.0 or greater. Grazing can start when the oat plants reach 20-25 cm in height. Graze the plants down to 5-7 cm and then rest the paddock for at least 30 days to allow for regrowth.
This mix can also improve soil fertility. The addition of the legume peas fixes nitrogen, naturally reducing some of the need for nitrogen fertilisers. This mix requires adequate soil moisture and nutrient availability for optimal growth and production.
