Malvin Welch - A Wesco Farmers Story
From 250 kgs a cow to 440. That's not a typo.
Malvin Welch milks 1,000 cows across 350 hectares at Mangatawhiri, North Waikato, and pasture is everything. When he took on some of his dairy units, the old pastures were tired and underperforming.
Working alongside Wesco Seeds, Malvin's been pulling out those poor performers and re-establishing with seed mixes suited to his farm. Nine seasons on, production has climbed from around 250–280 kgs a cow up to 430–440 kgs a cow.
It's not just the seed. When Malvin needs product, he can phone Wesco and have it on farm within a week, fast enough to keep his programme moving.
"You're important to them. Being a small business, they care."
