Chico Chicory is a proven, fast-establishing perennial herb that provides high-quality feed through spring, summer and autumn. Bred for persistence and reliability, it has been widely used across New Zealand farms for decades.
Chico’s deep taproot allows it to perform exceptionally well in dry or summer-stressed conditions, while its high feed value and palatability make it ideal for finishing lambs, growing beef cattle, and boosting milk production in dairy systems

- High Feed Quality: Excellent energy and protein levels, supporting top animal performance.
- Deep Taproot: Draws moisture and nutrients from subsoils, providing drought resilience and strong summer growth.
- Proven Performer: One of New Zealand’s most widely sown chicory cultivars, recognised for dependability and regrowth.
- Excellent Palatability: Livestock graze Chico readily, maintaining high utilisation even under hot conditions.
- Nutrient-Rich: High in trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc - ideal for supporting stock health.
Choice Chicory is a high-quality perennial herb bred in New Zealand for superior animal performance, persistence, and adaptability across a wide range of farming systems. It produces exceptional summer and autumn growth, providing highly palatable, nutrient-dense forage that supports animal health, weight gain, and milk production.
Sargent’s strong root system gives it excellent drought tolerance and regrowth ability, making it a valuable component in both finishing and dairy systems.
We recommend grazing when the Chicory is around 15-20cm high so the tap root is well established to prevent pulling.
