Blaze Forage Sorghum
Blaze is a fast-growing, fine-leaved sorghum × sudan grass hybrid bred for high-quality summer feed. It delivers multiple grazings or cuts from a single crop, with strong early vigour, rapid regrowth and excellent palatability. Blaze thrives in warm soils and keeps producing in low-rainfall conditions, making it an ideal option when perennial pastures are under pressure from summer heat and dry conditions.
Blaze is supplied fungicide treated. The fungicide helps protect seedlings from soil-borne diseases and damping-off while the crop establishes.
Plant when soil temperature is 15–16°C and rising.
Grows well in low-rainfall areas.
Sowing Rate: 35kg per hectare
Key benefits
- Summer feed when you need it: keeps growing through hot, dry conditions when pasture slows.
- Multiple grazings or cuts: rapid regrowth after grazing gives repeat feed through the season.
- Highly palatable: fine, leafy growth with excellent digestibility that stock readily eat.
- Strong establishment: large seed with very good seedling vigour.
- Versatile: suits intensive or extensive grazing, hay, silage and baleage.
- Excellent standability: stands up well in the paddock.
Grazing management
- Begin grazing or cutting once plants reach 60–120cm.
- Don’t graze or cut below 15cm. Leaving a good stubble ensures fast regrowth.
- Strip graze with a back fence to reduce trampling and wastage.
Prussic acid warning: like all sorghums, Blaze can contain prussic acid. The risk is highest when plants are under 60cm, moisture stressed, or after a frost. Don’t graze young plants or regrowth following a frost or dry spell, and never put hungry stock onto the crop.
